both current has their own advantages and disadvantages but as far as usefulness is concern most of high power machines or devices we use now a days are made to work on AC so it has a upper hand in utilisation but electronics completely rely on the DC so it has a upper hand in this case . both the form can be interchanged now a days as power electronics is developing faster. AC has the best advantages i.e. its voltage can be enlarged with a proportionate reduction in current so its easy to transmit. but has some disadvantages like skin effect,reactance loss which DC does not posses and dc requires small conductors than AC.
