Yesterday was the last day of my school days (officially); well, you can say last second because the ‘shirt day’, what other classmates call it, is yet to come. But I’m not looking forward to this day because I find it worthless. Maybe, it is of worth- friends write beautiful words on each other’s shirt and collect their admit cards from teachers and say goodbye- memories are made. I don’t want to be a part of this. Even if I want, I don’t want to preserve and hold on to such memories, they make me sad. I hate losing my emotional control.

Besides all these, I still believe yesterday was the last day I went to school. I was sitting on my own, on the last bench; chemistry book was on my desk. Nobody was in the class, everybody went home. I was thinking- thinking that I cannot be stuck and hold on to this classroom forever. I need to be independent, I need to see and face the world. I’m brave and confident enough. That moment, all I had were my books and the ‘poori’ my Naani made in the early morning. It was one of the beautiful moments to let go of.

I stood up, putting my palms together. I closed my eyes and bowed slightly as the kids sang closing prayer on the speaker. I sang with them. Then after packing my stuff and holding my bag on my shoulders, I made my way to the schoolbus meeting my little sister on the way.
