as a beginner i started with a c# side blown flute Which was a 6 hole flute. Now depending upon your interest you can either go for 6 hole hindustani flute or a 7 hole carnatic flute. I would suggest a 6 hole flute as it being the more popular of the lot, you can get more videos and tutorials on it.
