• Mouth
• Oesophagus
• Stomach
• Small intestine
• Large intestine
Digestion is a process through which food is broken down into a simpler state in order to be easily absorbed by the body. There are various organs which play an important part in the process of digestion.
Mouth is the foremost place where digestion starts. The food pipe or oesophagus as it is called, transfers the food from the mouth to the stomach. The stomach then breaks the food into smaller pieces. This is done through churning of food with the assistance of digestive juices.
The food then passes from the stomach to the small intestine. The process of digestion gets completed here and the essential nutrients are absorbed into the blood. The undigested food from the small intestine is collected by the large intestine. The water from the undigested food is absorbed here and creates faeces, which is a waste product.
Hope this helps.
