Kalaburagi is popularly referred to as Tur bowl of Karnataka. It alone contributes 40 % of the state's production. Thus, agriculture is the main industry here.
It's also a cement producing zone as per the Karnataka industrial policy 2009-14.
Kalaburagi's total GDP stands at INR 73.10 billion.
Apart from Tur, other cereals grown here are Jowar, Bajra and Paddy. Kalaburagi cultivates Pulses like Red Gram and Sorghum, Sunflower, Tamarind, Coconut and Turmeric.
Mango, Grapes Banana, Sapota, Sweet orange, Fig, Leafy Vegetables, Chilli, Tomato, Onion, Brinjal and Rose, Marigold, Jasmine, & Aster flowers are amongst the varied horticultural produce.
There are rich limestone reserves of 6,445 million tons, 5 industrial areas and 9 industrial estates.
There are 13 large and medium scale industries and 17,146 MSME's with investments worth 36.5 billions.
A proposed textile park and 1,320 MW thermal power project will provide further growth and development.
There is also immense scope for bio-fuel plantation and afforestation. Floriculture, aromatic, dairy and medicinal herbs are other thrust areas in the district.
Hope it helps!
