The Peninsular Plateau is the largest physical division of India.
It covers an area of around 16 lakh square kilometres. It is bounded by the Maikal range in the North, Aravallis in the North-West, Hazaribagh and Rajmahal Hills in the North-East, the Eastern Ghats in the East and the Western Ghats in the West.
The plateau is divided into:
1. Central High Lands which include the Aravalli Range, Vindhya Range, Bundelkhand Plateau, Malwa Plateau, and Baghelkhand Plateau.
2. Eastern Plateau which consists of the Chhota Nagpur Plateau and Meghalaya Plateau.
3. The Deccan Plateau which includes the Mahadev Hills, Maikal Range, Kaimur Hills, Western Ghats, Anaimalai Hills, Nilgiri, Palani Hills, Cardamom Hills, Eastern Ghats, Maharashtra Plateau, Mahendragiri, Mahanadi Basin, Karnataka Plateau, Garhjat Hills, Telangana Plateau, Tamil Nadu Upland and Karnataka Plateau.
