Question :- Which is the largest ratio 5/36, 2:9, 3 to 18, 1:3 ?

Solution :-

writing all given ratios in fraction we get :-

  • 5/36 = 5/36 .
  • 2 : 9 = 2/9
  • 3 to 18 = 3/18 = 1/6 .
  • 1 : 3 = 1/3 .

Now, Taking LCM of all denominators we get,

LCM of 36, 9 , 6 and 3 is :-

2 | 36 - 9 - 6 - 3

3 | 18 - 9 - 3 - 3

3 | 6 - 3 - 1 - 1

2 - 1 - 1 - 1

LCM = 2 * 3 * 3 * 2 = 36 .

So,

→ (5/36) , (2/9) , (1/6) , (1/3)

Making all denominator same equal to LCM now, we get,

→ (5/36) * (1/1) , (2/9) * (4/4) , (1/6) * (6/6) , (1/3) * (12/12)

→ (5/36) , (8/36) , (6/36) , (12/36)

Now, comparing all numerator, we get,

→ 5 < 6 < 8 < 12 .

12 is largest here.

Therefore, we can conclude that,

→ (12/36) = (1/3) = 1 : 3 is the largest ratio.
