Reproduction by asexual spore formation is the most common type of reproduction in fungi.

In asexual reproduction, Spores are dispersed from the parent either by moving air or pollinators. On getting a favorable condition these spores evolve and form new individuals or entities. Asexual spores are formed after mitosis (mitospores) without the inclusion of meiosis. Fungi show a large diversity in a variety of asexual spores. There are some species of fungi that produce different types of such spores.

One of the most important criteria in classifying fungi was the formation of spores and their morphology. Asexual spores produced on stalks, or conidiophores, are called conidia. They are exogenous as well as none motile. On the other hand, zoospores are exogenous and motile asexual spores.
