Crossing over is the main event during prophase one ,crossing occurs in the genetic material.Enzyme recombinase is responsible for the crossing over of the homologous chromosomes

The most important event happens during Prophase Ist is the exchange of genetic material between two sister chromatids known as crossing over. Crossing over takes place during Pachytene phase of Prophase Ist.Crossing over is a significant event as due to exchange of genetic material between sister chromatids at Pachytene phase of Prophase Ist,there will be recombination of genes, resulting in Heterosis,which will be more resistant to diseases and higher yield than either of the parent will result in offsprings, that's why the crossing over at Pachytene phase of Prophase Ist is The most important event that take place.
