Neutron is the neutral particle of an atom as it has a Relative electric charge '0'.

It has a mass of 1.675 × 10^-27.

James Chadwick proved the presence of neutrons in 1932 by a experiment where he bombarded Beryllium(Be) with alpha particles. The radiations emitted by Be to be incident on a detector. No charges were detected. But when Beryllium was placed between Be and the detector, it showed the presence of protons. These protons were emitted from paraffin wax. Thus it was clear that when alpha particles struck beryllium foil some neutral particles with mass similar to that of protons were emitted. These neutral particles caused the paraffin disc to emit protons. These particles were then named as neutrons.
