Luni is a west-flowing river going towards mostly the 'desert land' of western Rajasthan. It originates from the 'Naga hills' present in the 'Aravalli Range' in Rajasthan’s 'Ajmer' district from a height of 772mts.  

It has fresh water during the first hundred kilometers but it reaches Balotra in Barmer. The water then becomes 'saline' due to the high amounts of salt content on the surface it flows.
