Typically there are many ways to reaching the south pole and every distance is a short distance ,it all depends with your starting point

Lets assume that you are from the north pole ,if you are from the north pole and is headed to the south pole and you want the shortest distance posible then i would advise you to keep straight south not to deviate at any point
