"The ultimate pathway for fixing CO2 into glucose is Photosynthesis. It's done by green plants and this reaction is done in presence of sunlight with the help of the Chlorophyll. The formula or the basic structure of the problem stands thus:

Carbon dioxide + Water → Carbohydrates + Oxygen.

Plants, algae and certain bacteria use the process of Photosynthesis in order to bind energy from sunlight and then turn it into chemical energy. Photosynthetic processes are of two types viz oxygenic photosynthesis and anoxygenic photosynthesis. Among these two types, oxygenic photosynthesis is the most common. This type of photosynthesis is observed in plants, algae and cyanobacteria.

At the time of oxygenic photosynthesis in order to produce carbon dioxide (CO2), light energy transfers electrons from water (H2O) to carbon dioxide (CO2). In this process of transfer, the CO2 is ""reduced,"" or receives electrons. In addition, the water involves in the process becomes ""oxidized,"" or loses electrons. And resulted in the production of oxygen is along with carbohydrates.
