Since countries have different population, comparing total income will not tell us what an average person is likely to earn.

Total Income is not a useful measure to compare two countries because , on simply seeing that one country , suppose USA has a greater income and the other country , suppose Norway has less total income , we can not gauge whether the country is developed or not , because development has many faces like Infant mortality rate , literacy rate etc.
