Daman & Diu is the Western most Union Territory of India. Union Territory of Daman & Diu comprises two districts namely Daman and Diu. Both districts are situated on Western Coast of India at a distance of 700 Km. Daman is on main land near Southern portion of Gujarat state. Vapi is the nearest railway station (13 km), which is on Western Railway between Mumbai and Surat.
Diu is an island near Una of Junagarh district of Gujarat state. Nearest railway station is Delwada at a distance of 9 km from Diu. A portion of Diu district is on main land which is known as Ghoghla.
History :
After liberation on 19 December, 1961 from Portuguese rule of more than 4 centuries, Daman & Diu became a part of the Union Territory of Goa, under Government of India. When Goa became a state, Union Territory of Daman & Diu came into existence on 30th May, 1987.
