Answer :

Isomerism : The phenomenon of existence of two or more compounds possessing the same molecular formula but different properties is known as isomerism.

Compound A :

  • CH₃CH₂OCH₂CH₃

Compound B :

  • CH₃CH₂CH₂OCH₃

Both compounds have same functional group (-O-).

The two isomers differ in the nature of alkyl group attached to the same functional group.

Hence, both compounds show metamerism.

Learn More :

  • Position isomerism : Having different positions of functional group on the C-chain.
  • Functional group isomerism : Havimg different functional groups.
  • Chain or Nuclear isomerism : Having different carbon skeletons.
  • Metamerism : Having different alkyl groups on either side of the functional group.

Cheers!
