The vessels which carry blood from the heart to the different parts of the body are called 'arteries' while those that carry it back to the heart from all the parts of the body are called 'viens'

arteries provide pure blood to the body
veins bring the impure blood from all parts of the body back to the heart.

as arteries spread to different parts of body and branch out and diameter becomes smaller these are called capillaries.
