According to the shapes of the bone presented and it's types of the movements they allow to make it happen, the synovial joints are of six types: gliding joint, hinge joint, pivot joint, ellipsoid joint, saddle joint and ball-and-socket joint.
A pivot joint, is where the joints between the atlas and the axis vertebrae and between the radius and ulna (radioulnal joint is given to this) just below the elbow are some of the examples of pivot joint. The first or primary movement at a pivot joint is called as rotation. It is also a monoaxial joint as it also allows on the movement of a single or only one plane is allowed to move.
