“Holding Together" is the right answer.
The Indian federalism is created by “Holding Together” essence of federalism. This type of federalism does not give equal power to its constituting units. Some of the characteristics of this type of federalism are the following:
1. No identical power is given to the states with the union government.
2. In order to protect preserve the traditions, custom, linguistic diversity and culture, some of the states of India have been conferred exclusive statuses, such as Jammu and Kashmir and the North Eastern States.
3. There are some territories in India which have a union-like Lakshadweep, Chandigarh, and the capital city of Delhi. These territories come under the control of the Union government hence, they are most commonly known as the Union territory.
