Sanskrit belongs to the Indo-Europeangroup of languages, which caters to a whole gamut of language groups:Slavic, Iranian, Germanic, Baltic etc. Sanskrit gave rise to Marathi, Bengali,Gujarati, Nepali, Punjabi and much later, Hindi - and some other North Indian Languages. That is it.
