the humus is the topmost and the most fertile layer of soil.It is also known as topsoil.
humus is provided with dead and decaying organic matter which provides the soil with a large amount of manure and organic nitrogenous products which are produced during the decomposition of organic matter by decomposers like bacteria as nitrogenis an essential component of living organisms and constituent of most proteins.
nitrogen is highly nutritious and recommended for plant growth . it hence makes the soil very fertile.
thus humus or the topmost layer of the soil is the most essential.
