Given:

The equation of a line: y = x - 2

To find:

The equation of line that is parallel to the line y = x - 2

Solution:

From given, we have,

y = x - 2 ...... (1)

The condition for two lines to be parallel is that, they should have equal value of the slope.

The given equation is in the standard form of straight line equation.

y = mx + c  ....... (2)

Comparing the  equations (1) and (2) The slope of the given equation is,

m = 1

Therefore the slope of the line parallel to the line y = x - 2 should also be 1.

Let the equation of the parallel line be,

y = x + k.

where m = 1 and k is the constant.

Therefore, for k ∈ N, the line y = x + k is parallel to the line with eqaution y = x - 2.
