Active immunity is a type of Adaptive immunity which is included in the Third line of defense.

  • In general, active immunity is permanent. It is induced by direct contact with an antigen by the host's antibodies.
  • In response to antigens, the body produces antibodies and other specialized lymphocytes.
  • Immune memory is produced as a result of it.
  • Natural immunity and vaccine-induced immunity can both lead to active immunity.
  • For example, somebody who becomes contaminated with chickenpox. After the underlying contamination, the body fabricates insusceptibility against the sickness. This Active immunity is the reason individuals who get chickenpox are invulnerable for a long time to the illness.
