The liquid metal that is used in making thermometers is known as mercury.

The particular type of thermometer is known as mercury thermometer and was invented by Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit.

The design consist a bulb which contains mercury attached to a narrow glass tube diameter.

The volume of mercury is more in the bulb.
