It is a seal of certification used by agricultural products and manufacturers in India.
It assures customers that a product conforms to a set of standards that is approved by the Directorate of Marketing and Inspection.
The Directorate is a Government of India agency.
The seal is legally enforced throughout India by the Agricultural Produce Act of 1937.
It was also later amended in 1986.
