A metal doesn't liberate hydrogen gas when it reacts with acid. If you remember reactivity series, this metal is less reactive than hydrogen.
The metal which is less reactive than hydrogen and forms a black oxide is Copper.
The metal is copper.
The black metal oxide is CuO
2Cu + O2 = 2CuO

nitric acid is a good oxidising agent so whenever any metal reacts with it and forms hydrogen gas it convert it into water
