Answer:  Milk. This is very perishable and needs refrigeration. Even refrigerated, it will eventually go off. For longer storage, it can be frozen, dried to a powder, or canned. The latter two techniques are usually not available to the home cook.

Jam. Jam is essentially a method of preserving fruit with a large amount of sugar. Also it usually is packed in a sterile jar. After opening, it should be refrigerated because the high amount of sugar and moisture makes it available to mold. Some jams have lower sugar, and these can spoil or even ferment.

Cereals. Do you mean the processed breakfast foods like Froot Loops and Wheaties, or do you mean grains? If the former, then I think they have enough preservatives in them to keep them edible for an indefinite time. If the latter, then I could say that whole grains keep very well in a cool place that excludes air, but since most whole grains have some fats in them, they can acquire off-flavors from rancidity. Altered grains such as white rice and grain products such as white macaroni are little more than starch and keep good longer.

Pickles. The art of pickling has been practiced for millennia as a method of food preservation. Classic pickles of this sort will keep for a fairly long time. Pickles prepared and processed in sterile jars will keep some years but will deteriorate in texture and flavor.

Dried Fruits. Drying food is another time-tested means of preservation. Drying fruits concentrates their sugar content so that spoilage is much less likely to occur. Dried fruit keeps for a long time, but it is possible that the vitamins that are present in the fresh fruit will disappear if stored for an extended time. I have used dried fruit that has become quite hard. Dried fruit, like most food kept for storage, should be stored away from air, heat, and light.

Cauliflower. This is a fresh vegetable and in its unadulterated form should be refrigerated and used fairly quickly, although it doesn’t go bad in a hurry. It can also be pickled. I imagine it could be dried, if sliced thin. It can be frozen.
