The minerals which are used to make steel are:
- Steel is made from pig metal by extracting some carbon and putting intermetallic compounds such as manganese, chromium, copper, nickel, titanium, molybdenum, tungsten, and vanadium into a basic oxygen converter. Steel can also be manufactured in an electric arc furnace by recycling ferrous scrap.
- Steel is created by separating the iron from the oxygen and adding a trace quantity of carbon. These are created by burning metal at a hot altitude (1,700 degrees Celsius or nearly 3,000 degrees Fahrenheit) in the presence of oxygen (from the air) and coal called coke.
