The mineralogy of basalt is characterized by a preponderance of calcic  plagioclase feldspar and  pyroxene. Olivine can also be a significant constituent. Accessory minerals present in relatively minor amounts include iron oxidesand iron-titanium oxides, such as, magnetite ulvospinel, and limenite.
