That is the Answer
Hitler didn't listen to his generals and this resulted in several mistakes. One major mistake was he sent his troops into Russia without winter gear or preparation. He also had develped a early jet that was faster than any allied air plane at the time, but didn't use it. Both of these were two major mistakes he made.

Mussolini wanted to build an empire of his own by invading British held parts of Africa and the Balkan states. Both resulted in military disasters. Hitler, unwilling to let his friend go down, sent troops. This would distract Hitler from focusing on his biggest threat at the time, the island of Britain, which would later serve as a beachhead for allied troops to invade on D-Day.

Messing with the Russians. Napoleon did it once before and lost over half of his army. Hitler gambled that by invading Russia in the summer, he would reach Moscow by winter. Little did he know that the Russians would utilize the same scorch earth policy that they used against Napoleon (burning everything and leaving nothing behind) against the Germans. Hitler’s decision to invade Russia ultimately cost him the war. The loss of the sixth army at the Battle of Stalingrad was a turning point where the Russians proved that the Germans can be defeated on land. The Russians then launched a major counteroffensive that would force Hitler to stretch his army thin on two fronts.
