There were two Sino-Japanese wars.
The first one was in 1894 - 95, between the Qing Empire of China and the Empire of Japan, for Korea. In this battle, the Chinese had to concede defeat after six months of fighting.
The second Sino-Japanese war was fought between 1937 – 1945, as a result of a military dispute, between Japan and China. In this battle, China was supported by Russia as they did not want the Japanese coming into the Chinese mainland.
