The body's system for regulating food intake is coordinated by the hypothalamus, which is located under the midline of the brain, behind the eyes: Within the hypothalamus are nerve cells that, when activated, produce the sensation of hunger.

NERVOUS SYSTEM

A body system which is responsible for transmitting signals from one part of the body to the other which results in actions is know as nervous system.

Hypothalamus is responsible for controlling hunger pangs.

There are two nerve centers in hypothalamus  which have their own functions. Let us discuss them :-

  1. The Lateral Hypothalamus (LH) - It regulates metabolism and food intake. It responds to the stimulation which makes you to feel hungry.
  2. The Ventromedial Hypothalamus (VMH) - It responds after you are done with eating. The signals will tell you that your stomach is full now and you have to stop eating.

We need to pay attention to both these signals as the body requires energy  which we get through food and when we start receiving signals from VMH, we have to stop as excessive eating leads to health related problems.
