During the medical period as the economic, political and other activities of the society increased there emerged new castes and sub-castes as well. These castes emerged within the Varnas.
The new castes emerged during the period include-Jats, Marathas, Rajputs, Ahoms and Kayasthas (a caste of scribes and secretaries) etc.
