Newton third law of motion. As the bird push down on the air with their wings, the air pushes their wings and give them lift.

Newton's third law of motion is applied in flight of a bird.

  • Newton's third law of motion states that - "Every action has an equal and opposite reaction."
  • Now, when the birds flap their wings, they are actually applying some amount of downward facing force on the atmospheric air. Following the Newton's third law, the air also pushes the bird in the opposite direction or upward direction with the equal amount of force (than of applied by the bird previously.)
  • Due to this reverse force applied by the air in upward direction, the birds are able to fly in the air. And, similarly the Newton's third law is fulfilled here.
