Carbon is the nonmetal with high tensile strength.

Explanation:

  • Carbon metals are basically iron which are being mixed with more than 0.8% and less than 2.11% of carbon.
  • Thus the carbon steel has the tendency to be very strong. This is due to the characteristics of carbon which are attached in the metal so as to increase its strength.
  • It provides the steel with the much-needed hardness and a great amount of tensile strength which helps in the usage of this steel in making nails and other types of tools.
  • The tensile strength of carbon in steel is around 635 MPa and the modulus of elasticity is 200 GPa.
