A rational number can be expressed as a fraction.It can not be written in \frac{a}{b} form.Where a and b are whole numbers.

An irrational number can not be written in a fraction form.0.4 can be written as a fractional number 0.4=\frac{4}{10}

π is an irrational number when  it is added to 0.4 we will get an irrational number  .π+0.4=3.5415...The division is not coming to end and so we ger an irrational number.

Adding any irrational number such as √2,√3,√5...will give us an irrational number.
