Let x should be subtracted

According to Question

\sf   ~~~~~~~\implies      \dfrac{11}{12} - x = \dfrac{-3}{4}

\sf   ~~~~~~~ \implies      - x = \dfrac{-3}{4}  - \dfrac{11}{12}

\sf   ~~~~~~~ \implies      - x =  \dfrac{ - 9 - 11}{12}

\sf   ~~~~~~~ \implies      - x =  \dfrac{ - 20}{12}

\sf   ~~~~~~~\implies        x =  \dfrac{10}{6}

\sf   ~~~~~~~\implies        x =  \dfrac{5}{3}\\\\

  • Hence 5/3 should be subtracted from 11/12 so that we obtain -3/4.
