1. 41 lakh youth lose jobs in India due to COVID-19 pandemic: As per ILO-ADB Report India, the report estimates job loss for 4.1 million youth.

2. Major areas which have seen job cuts are: Daily wage earners, laborers, Hospitality, Tourism, Entertainment, Automobile manufacturing industry and white collar jobs

3. The Reasons for job cuts are many like:

a) Lockdown to control the spread of virus has halted key industries and has rendered millions jobless.

b) Tourism industry has seen decline as people are canceling there plans for travel to prevent themselves from catching the virus.

c) There is lower demand from consumers to buy cars and automobiles, and other luxury items as many of them wish to save money for medical expenses or if their family is already going through the crisis they have low purchase power.

d) Due to rise in unemployment and deaths due to corona the purchasing power of people have decreased.

e) Lockdown has seen decline in sale of beauty products also. So the people working in that sector are loosing their jobs. However, demand of essential commodity like food items and personal hygiene items have increased. This is because people worrying more about their health and basic needs. They are piling up essential items for future use in case of sudden Lockdown is announced.

4. Another worrying issue is that many people who currently have their jobs are working in just half of their initial pay or there is drastic pay cut.

5. As per data Covid-19 second wave left 73.5 lakh jobless in April. Eminent economists have predicted that high unemployment situation will persist for many years in India.
