Answer:Thousands of US and Filipino prisoners of war died

Explanation:

On 7th December 1941, Japan bombed the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor which led to the beginning of the Japanese invasion of the Philippines .They  took over Manila which was the capital of Philippines and forced the American and Filipino defenders of Luzon to retreat to     Bataan Peninsula. For the next three months the Japanese and the combined force of U.S.-Filipino army were seen locked in a bitter war.

Finally, on 9th April 1942 during the World War II the combined force of U.S.-Filipino army  surrender ( because of starvation and disease) to the Japanese forces. The combined forces were rounded up by the Japanese troops and were made to take a treacherous walk of 65 mile from Mariveles ( southern end of Bataan Peninsula) to San Fernando (prisoner camp).

The prisoners of war had to trek in severe heat and were treated very harshly by the Japanese army. It is believed that a large number of the surrender army personal died on their way due to the brutality of the Japanese soldiers, who often kept them starved and beat them. Those who survived the journey where ferried by rail from San Fernando to war camps, where many died due to disease, starvation and mistreatment.

This march was known as the Bataan Death March.

Hope this helps.
