Which occurs during transcription? DNA is copied to create a second DNA strand. mRNA codons and tRNA anticodons assemble amino acids. DNA is unzipped with the aid of DNA polymerase. mRNA is synthesized from a strand of DNA.
Answers
Answer: The correct answer is mRNA is synthesized from a strand of DNA.
Transcription is the process of synthesizing mRNA using one of the strands of DNA as a template strand. The template strand is called an antisense strand as it contains the sequence complementary to that of mRNA.
Transcription is primarily divided into three steps-
1) Initiation- It is the first step of transcription. During this, the RNA polymerase enzyme binds to the promoter in the DNA, which marks the beginning of transcription. The DNA strands are separated and RNA polymerase is ready to read the sequences of template strand of DNA.
2) Elongation- Using RNA polymerase, addition of NTP ( ribonucleoside triphosphate) takes place ( in 5'-3' direction) according to Watson and Crick base pairing. This results into mRNA transcript.
3) Termination- It is the end of transcription. During this, RNA polymerase encounters a stop sequence in the gene and by terminating the process, mRNA is detached from the DNA.
Thus, mRNA is synthesized from a strand of DNA during the process of transcription.
