Qᴜēsᴛíõñ :-

Which of √2 and 2 is a zero of the polynomial p(x) = x³ - 2x ? Why ?

Söʟúᴛîøɴ :-

p(x) = x³ - 2x

p(√2) = (√2)³ - 2(√2)

= 2√2 - 2√2 = 0

p(2) = (2)³ - 2(2)

= 8 - 4 = 4

Since p(√2) = 0, √2 is a zero of the polynomial

When p(x) =√2

=x³-2x

=(√2)³-2(√2)

=2√2-2√2

=0

When p(x) =2

=(2)³-2(2)

=8-4

=4

So, √2 is zero of polynomial p(x) x³-2x
