Answer:

The emitter follower configuration is mostly used as a voltage buffer. These configurations are widely used in impedance matching applications because of their high input impedance. Common collector amplifiers have the following circuit configurations

Common Collector.

  • Common collector configuration, also known as the emitter follower and provides high input of impedance & low output impedance. So they are used  for impedance matching.
  • In the common collector configuration, the collector terminal is the common to both of the input & output terminal's. The current gain in  common collector configuration is the ratio of emitter current to  base current.
  • Since the emitter current is the high as compared to base current, we get current amplification.
  • It will provides the voltage gain of less than unity.

Differences between different transistor configuration is :

Parameter      Common-Base     Common-Emitter     Common-Collector

Input Current          IE                          IB                                IB

Output Current       IC                          IC                                IE

Voltage Gain            Medium                Medium                       Less Than 1

Thus the answer is Common collector.

Common collector configuration is used for the impedance matching.
