Which is the best cement for building your home?

During the reign of Tippu Sultan, the Wodeyars were nominally the rulers of Mysore Kingdom but they didn’t have any real power.

Between the time period of 1732–1799, the Wodeyar dynasty was very weak. This started when Dodda Krishnaraja Wodeyar I died in 1732 without a direct heir. The next kings were essentially puppets under the control of Dalavayis (military commanders).

One such person who later became Dalavayi was . He was a very skillful military leader and his power went on increasing. In 1761, he became the de facto ruler of Mysore with the title of Sarvadhikari (Supreme Leader or Dictator) of Krishnaraja Wadiyar II. Hyder Ali called himself Sultan of Mysore and continued to rule till his death in 1782.

Following Hyder Ali’s death, his power was “inherited” by his son Tippu. He went a step further and seized absolute power in 1786. When the puppet king Chamaraja Wodeyar IX died in 1796, Tippu Sultan deposed the Wodeyars and became the sole ruler of Mysore for the next three years, till his death in 1799. Only after Tippu’s death were Wodeyars restored to power with British support.

Consider the power structure between the President and Prime Minister of India. President is the supreme authority, who is the head of state and commander-in-chief of Indian armed forces. But the position is only ceremonial, with the real power lying with the Prime Minister.

The comparison of President-Prime Minister with Wodeyars-Tippu Sultan is not very accurate but it should give a rough idea.
