In his early years, Andrew Jackson was involved in land speculation, in which land belonging to Native Indians, were claimed by the residents. During this time, he acquired several hundreds of acres of land and kept several hundreds of slaves to look after his estates. He meted out severe punishments to slaves who erred in their work.
His supporters in the 1828 election, were also those, who approved the above harsh realities.
