Given : y=−2x+7

To Find : Which of the following coordinates represent  solutions to the equation y=−2x+7

A) (0 , 0)

B)    (3, 1)

C)  (–5, 17)

D)  (9, –11)

 E) (–8, –9)

Solution:

Solution of the equation satisfy the equation

y=−2x+7

(0 , 0)  Substitute x= 0 and y = 0

=> 0  = 7

Not True

(3 , 1)  Substitute x= 3 and y = 1

=> 1 = -2(3) + 7

=> 1 = 1

 True

Hence ( 3 ,1 )  is one of the solution

(-5 , 17)  Substitute x= -5 and y = 17

=> 17 = -2(-5) + 7

=> 17 = 17

 True

Hence ( -5 ,17 )  is one of the solution

(9 , -11)  Substitute x= 9 and y = -11

=> -11 = -2(9) + 7

=> -11 = -11

 True

Hence ( 9 ,-11 )  is one of the solution

(-8 , -9)  Substitute x= -8 and y =-8

=>-8 = -2(-8) + 7

=>-8 = 23

Not True

So Solutions are :

( 3 ,1 ) ,  ( -5 ,17 )  and ( 9 ,-11 )

Correct options  B. C and D
