\Large{\underline{\sf{\blue{Required\:Answer:-}}}}

Distrubition of electrons from one shell to another shell occurs only when the shell is completly filled.

\boxed{ \sf{\purple{Number \: of \: electrons \: that \: can \: be \: accomodated \: in \: a \:shell = 2 {n}^{2} }}}

Here ,

  • n is Shell number

Number of electrons K shell can accomodate = 2(1)² = 2

Number of electrons L shell can accomodate = 2(2)² = 8

Number of electrons M shell can accomodate = 2(3)² = 18

Number of electrons N shell can accomodate = 2(4)² = 32

Now ,Magnesium has 12 electrons . So , 2 Electrons in K shell , 8 electrons in L shell and remaining 2 electrons in N shell .

Hence , The correct distribution of electrons of Magnesium atom is 2 , 8 , 2.
