This decision in 2012, to upgrade India’s ageing fighter aircraft fleet, was however scaled back in 2016, since it was found to be too expensive.

Currently, India has agreed to buy 36 Rafale jets from Dassault Aviation of France, who with their other partners in the deal, will share technology with DRDO, HAL and some private companies.
