B – lymphocytes are not included in cellular barriers of innate immunity. (option c)
- Macrophages, types of WBCs - Neutrophils, Basophils, Eosinophils, Monocytes, NK cells -- all are part of innate immunity which helps in recognition of the site of infection by the pathogen causing inflammation at that site.
- B-lymphocytes are part of Acquired or adaptive immunity.
- As the macrophages reach the site of infection, they can present antigens to T-cells which in turn produce signals to either activate Tc cells or T-cytotoxic cells to kill virus-infected cells or specific B cells to produce antibodies against the pathogen.
- B and T memory cells are also present.
- Innate immunity is present since birth whereas acquired immunity is acquired over a lifetime.
