In given points  D) 8,12,15 doesn't represents a Pythagorean triplet

Given:

A)3,4,5  B) 5,12,13  C)24,25,7  D) 8,12,15

To find:

Which of the following does not represent a Pythagorean triplet

Solution:

From Pythagorean theorem,

  • In a right angled triangle the Sum of the squares of sides is equals to the square of hypotenuse
  • If a, b and c are lengths of sides of a right triangle where a>b>c then a will be the hypotenuse

                             a² = b² + c²

  • The points which follows the above condition are called as a Pythagorean triplet

Given points

A) 3, 4, 5

Here, 5 > 4 >3

⇒ 4² + 3² = 5²

⇒ 16 + 9  = 25

⇒ 25 = 25

Therefore 3, 4, 5 represents a Pythagorean triplet

B) 5, 12, 13

Here, 13 > 12 > 5

⇒ 12² + 5² = 13²

⇒ 144 + 25 = 169

⇒ 169 = 169

Therefore 5, 12, 13 represents a Pythagorean triplet

C) 24, 25, 7

Here, 25 > 24 > 7

⇒ 7² + 24² = 25²

⇒ 49 + 576 = 625

⇒ 625 = 625

Therefore 24, 25, 7 represents a Pythagorean triplet

D) 8, 12, 15

Here, 15 > 12 > 8

⇒ 12² + 8² = 15²

⇒ 144 + 64 = 225

⇒ 208 \neq 225

Therefore, 8, 12, 15 doesn't represents a Pythagorean triplet

Therefore,

In given points  D) 8,12,15 doesn't represents a Pythagorean triplet
