Answer:

In the breathing process, the carbon dioxide from our body is expelled out and air containing more oxygen is pumped into our lungs. In the process of inspiration the diaphragm contracts, the chest cavity enlarges, and the air pressure inside our lungs drops.

The process of breathing.

Breathing refers to the movement of air into and out of the lungs. Two processes are involved in the breathing mechanism:

  1. Inhalation:- The method of inspiration or inhalation would involve a contraction of muscles attached to the ribs on the outer side, which pulls out the ribs and causes the chest cavity to expand. Later, the diaphragm contracts move downward, and expands the chest cavity, causing the abdominal muscles to contract.
  2. Exhalation:- After the gaseous exchange occurs in the lungs and the air is expelled out, the exhalation method is viewed once. This air expulsion is known as expiration or exhalation. During this process, the rib muscles contract and the diaphragm and abdominal muscles relax, resulting in a decrease in the volume of the chest cavity and an increase in the pressure of the lungs, causing the air in the lungs to be pushed out through the nose.

Mechanism Of Inhalation

  • Inhalation is the process of taking in atmospheric air. It is a dynamic process.
  • Inhalation occurs when the volume of the thoracic cavity increases and the air pressure decreases.
  • Contraction of the external intercostal muscles expands the thoracic cavity.
  • Contraction of the diaphragm expands the size of the thoracic activity even more. Concurrently, the lungs expand.
  • The air pressure inside the lungs decreases as the lungs expand.
  • The atmospheric air rushes inside the lungs as the pressure equalizes.
